‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Moving Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the departed filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA at the weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” it read. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
