This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
