Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
- Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
- Just some brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
