President Trump Calls Families of Injured Military Members to the White House
President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Call
The president explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the administration to pause asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
