Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
