Former UK Soldier Charged of Killing Kenya Female Shows Up in Courtroom

An individual has shown up before a judge as deportation processes started in the case of the victim Agnes Wanjiru, a female from Kenya who was found dead near a UK military installation in the year 2012.

The accused Robert Purkiss, 38 years old, who is a native of Greater Manchester region, appeared before the Westminster court on Friday, and told the court he planned to fight the extradition. Sources suggest that he was detained on the evening of Thursday.

A warrant for arrest for Purkiss was authorized by a Nairobi court in September. The state attorneys told the Kenyan court that the accused had been accused of a one count, of homicide, and that the government of Kenya would seek his extradition to face charges.

Purkiss previously worked as a army medic with the Lancaster Regiment, the infantry regiment for the northwestern England, including on missions to Afghanistan.

Agnes Wanjiru, 21 years old, a hair stylist who had a young daughter, disappeared after a evening out, and her remains was located after two months in the premises of the hotel where she had previously spotted.

No one had earlier been taken into custody or indicted in connection to her demise. His detention was the result of a new police inquiry, which was initiated after a exposé in 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the media outlet contacted several serving and ex-military personnel in the regiment.

The investigation has been spearheaded by investigators from Kenya, which, under a bilateral security treaty, maintains prosecutorial power in the legal case.
